The bright yellow crown welcomes me
Among the green stalks
The first blossoms of spring
An early harbinger
Remind me of so many springs before
That’s the spot,
Where they always are,
Year after year,
Here before I was born
Here before the house was ours
But always a part of our family
my great grandmother’s hands placing them in the ground
For her family, then
these same yellow faces smiling up at My mother
She watched the pop up to say hello each spring
Her daughters watch them too.
Now one watches over them each year.
When we return, my eyes go to the single place
Where they always are, will be, or have been.
A steady reminder of love.
